Welcome to Papago Buttes Pediatrics Center!
The doctors and staff at Papago Buttes Pediatric Center welcome the opportunity to become the medical home for your children.
The foundation to our approach to medical care is establishing long term personal relationships so that we may meet the individual needs of families. We strive to provide easy accessibility to our triage staff and doctors if needed. We believe the healthcare needs of your children are best provided by getting to know you and your children. We accomplish this by providing consistent well child care with one provider, as well as making every effort for you to see the same provider for most of your ill visits, although this is not always possible.
We’re here to support you in your child’s healthcare journey with:
- Comprehensive care for newborns through young adults (up to age 21)
- Same-day sick visits and well checks
- Convenient med checks, sports physicals, and summer camp physicals
- A smaller, more personal setting that puts families first
During the times when our office is closed, one of our physicians is available to you for urgent questions by phone. This enhances the continuity of care by keeping the care of your children within our office. For the most part, appointments are available for acutely ill children the same day or the day after you call.
During your visits we will make every attempt to answer all of your questions completely. The doctors make it their responsibility to stay current with recent changes and advances in pediatric care so that they can provide up to date care for your children. We would like for you to feel that you have access to our services whenever you need them. Our website will be an avenue we use to provide you with the latest in medical news that may impact the health of your children.
Our goal is to provide up-to-date pediatric care within the framework of personalized approach with an emphasis on accessibility to our staff. Our Team
Elaine Santos
Elaine Santos
M.D., FAAP
Dr. Elaine Santos is a board-certified pediatrician and a fellow of the American Academy at Pediatrics. She is close to a native of Arizona when she moved with her family to Scottsdale from Los Angeles at the age of 8. She graduated from the University of Southern California majoring in Psychobiology, then attended medical school at St. George’s University in Grenada West Indies. She completed her pediatric residency at SUNY Stony Brook in New York.
Dr. Santos moved back to Arizona in 2000 and has been in pediatric practice ever since. Her special interests are newborn care, preventive medicine, and nutrition. Dr Santos also loves to educate parents and their children about diet, exercise, and healthy lifestyles. When not at work, Dr. Santos enjoys strength training exercises, yoga, taking daily outdoor walks, hiking, and traveling. She also likes to try new restaurants and spend time with family and friends.

Laura Karnitschnig, DNP, CPNP, is a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner who grew up in the Phoenix Valley. She completed her undergraduate studies in Maryland and her graduate studies at Oregon Health Sciences University in 2003. As a registered nurse, she cared for children and families in Neonatal Intensive Care, Pediatrics, and Cardiac Care. Her doctoral studies, completed at Northern Arizona University in 2015, focused on family screening and health promotion. Laura K. is passionate about health promotion, prevention, and wellness in healthcare. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, including her two children. She likes to go on long walks with her dog, gardening, and has recently taken up the sport of Pickleball.
James Dennemeyer
James Dennemeyer
M.D., FAAP
Dr. Dennemeyer is a board-certified pediatrician and fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics
He has been practicing Pediatrics for over 30 years all over the country, most recently in New Mexico and Tucson. Originally from the US, at a young age his family moved to Europe where he had most of his schooling. After graduating from the University of Brussels Medical School he completed his pediatric training in New York and Philadelphia.
Dr. Dennemeyer has a wide range of expertise and especially loves building lasting relationships with his patients and families.
